Fire Emergencies
What to Do In a Fire Emergency

If you need to leave your home or business during a fire emergency, we recommend that you do NOT turn off your gas and electricity unless you smell or hear a natural gas leak.
If you need to shut off your utilities, here's how:

SDG&E's Community Fire Safety Program
SDG&E works closely with representatives from 40 different groups, including water districts, schools, the County of San Diego, fire agencies, telecommunication companies, disability rights groups and residents to improve fire preparedness.

Getting Your Power Restored
SDG&E will restore gas and electric service to your home or business just as soon as it is safe. You can call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 to request service restoration. Note that some city or county officials may require that you have a home or business inspection before allowing us to restore your service.
SDG&E has been working with Cal Fire, firefighting and law enforcement agencies and the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services to help prevent wildfires.
We've focused on many ways to protect power lines from fires, including:
Replacing numerous wood poles with sturdy steel poles.
Increasing power line and pole inspections.
Disabling automatic switches that would normally restore power after an outage during dry and windy weather. Power would be restored after a safety inspection of the lines.
Improving tree trimming and brush maintenance.
Staging work crews to respond quickly and ensuring our Emergency Operations Center can be activated on short notice.
Sign up your cell phone to get reverse 911 calls. Land lines are already included in the region’s 911 database. Find out more at the Ready San Diego website.
