What services does SDG&E offer for gas appliances?

SDG&E can inspect gas appliances and make minor adjustments as necessary, including calibrating ovens.

SDG&E does not cap off, connect or install gas appliances. For assistance contact a Heating or Plumbing contractor.

Does SDG&E make scheduled appointments for service?

Yes! Your time is important and we understand that. We’re so committed to meeting our service appointments, that we guarantee we’ll be on time or you’ll get a credit on your bill.

Does SDG&E install appliances or convert propane to natural gas?

SDG&E does not install gas appliances. SDG&E will convert a connected appliance(s) from propane to natural gas at the same time a new gas meter is being installed.

I am planning to move. How can I get my gas and electric service transferred to my new address?

You can transfer your gas and electric service online.

I'll be out of town for a few weeks. Does SDG&E schedule temporary disconnects?

Yes, you can request a disconnection of service at any time.

A service establishment charge of $15.00 per meter will be billed upon reconnection.

To avoid this charge, and to save energy while you're away, we suggest you consider the following options instead:

  • Turn electric water heaters off at the breaker
  • Set gas water heaters to pilot or low
  • Turn electric heaters off at the circuit breaker
  • Decrease temperature settings, or unplug water bed heaters
  • Turn heaters off for pools and spas and reduce the filter to a minimum

I am buying a new house and will need gas and electric meters installed. What steps do I take?

It is important to remember that you must receive final inspection approvals from both SDG&E and from the city or county before we can install the gas and/or electric meters.

Once approvals have been granted, contact our Customer Service Center to apply for the installation of meters at your new home.

What does SDG&E do to investigate suspected gas problems?

SDG&E will send out a service person, free of charge, to investigate the problem. Contact our Customer Service Center to schedule an appointment or report a problem.

How can I get SDG&E to trim the trees above my power lines?

SDG&E will trim trees when the contact between tree branches and power lines, between poles, is determined to be unsafe.

What kinds of free services does SDG&E offer?

SDG&E will send out a service representative to give your gas appliances a free inspection and mark the gas and electric appliances for the visually-impaired. SDG&E also offers:

Does SDG&E sell maintenance contracts for appliances or equipment?

At this time, SDG&E does not offer maintenance contracts.

Does SDG&E repair street lights?

SDG&E will either make the repairs or refer the customer to the proper municipality for assistance.

Will SDG&E replace broken breaker switches, repair internal electric wiring, or service electric appliances?

SDG&E does not replace parts or make repairs on customer-owned equipment or wiring.

Does SDG&E provide weather-stripping and caulking?

SDG&E does not provide these services. However, these are two low-cost conservation measures you can easily install to help control energy expenses.

Does SDG&E paint over graffiti on transformers?

Yes, contact our Customer Service Center to report graffiti on any SDG&E equipment.
