Energy Upgrade California ™ is a statewide program that offers cash incentives to single-family homeowners for energy-saving home improvements. Working with a participating contractor, you can increase the comfort of your home and save money on monthly utility bills.  The program offers:

Become an Energy Upgrade California Eligible Contractor

Sign up to become an eligible contractor today and join us in making a difference for our communities, our region and the environment. To participate, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Attend a mandatory contractor orientation workshop
  • Sign a contractor participation agreement.
  • Attend the program’s Basic Technical Training (unless contractor also          participates in the Advanced Path)
  • To perform basic upgrade packages:
    • Current CA state contractor’s license(s) appropriate to the retrofit project scope of work
    • Bonded and in good standing
    • Insurance to Investor-Owned Utility minimums
    • Contractor agrees to pull building permits on all work, as required by local jurisdiction
    • Contractor has a BPI-certified Building Analyst conduct combustion safety testing and all other minimum health and safety requirements specified in the BPI Building Analyst Standard
  • To perform advanced upgrade packages:
    • Current CA state contractor’s license(s) appropriate to the retrofit project scope of work
    • Bonded and in good standing
    • Insurance to Investor-Owned Utility minimums
    • Contractor agrees to pull building permits on all work, as required by local jurisdiction
    • Contractor has a BPI-certified Building Analyst conduct combustion safety testing and all other minimum health and safety requirements specified in the BPI Building Analyst Standard
    • At least one BPI Certification Accreditation
    • At least one BPI-certified Building Analyst on staff for each project
    • Training credential for CEC-approved modeling software testing.
    • Test-in and test-out performed according to BPI standards if conducted by a BPI Building Analyst, or to HERS II standards if conducted by a HERS II certified individual.
