Committed to our customers
Beyond delivering safe and reliable energy, we’re driving innovation, enhancing safety, fostering economic growth and supporting the communities we proudly serve.
About us
On April 18, 1881, five San Diegans formed the San Diego Gas Company, lighting the way for a city with a population of just over 3,000. From that modest start, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has evolved into a critical utility, now serving 3.7 million people across a 4,100-square-mile area. For over 140 years, we've powered the growth of San Diego and Southern Orange counties, delivering safe, reliable energy.
3.7 million consumers
We distribute energy service to 3.7 million people through 1.49 million electric meters and 905,000 natural gas meters.
4,600+ employees
We employ more than 4,600 people who work every day to deliver the clean, safe and reliable energy our customers need.
4,100 square-mile service area
1.4 million business and residential accounts in a 4,100 square-mile service area spanning 2 counties and 25 communities. View a map of our service area here.
Bringing good energy
We believe that delivering energy safely is only part of our role. We're committed to bringing good energy to the communities we serve through meaningful initiatives that make a difference. This includes wildfire-mitigation efforts, making electric-vehicle adoption easier, helping local businesses thrive and investing in K-12 education and workforce development. We're not just an energy company—we're part of this community, working to make it safer, stronger and more resilient.
Embracing change, shaping the future
In 2023, we introduced a refreshed logo to reflect our evolving goals and values. This new look represents our passion for progress and our focus on sustainability, diversity and community. While the letters in our logo stayed the same, the new design symbolizes our forward movement as we work toward achieving Net Zero by 2045. This transformation underscores our commitment to keeping our region safer and better prepared for the future.
We've had our old logo for over three decades, and a transition of this scale takes time. We prioritized updating our fleet vehicles and facility signage first, and plan to update all uniforms, equipment and safety gear over time.
The majority of our employees have received new badges with our updated logo. However, getting updated badges to all employees and contractors can be a long process. Any employee that has a badge with an old logo will direct customers to our company website, where the customer can learn more about this change for themselves. If you have any questions, you can contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-411-7343 to confirm that if that individual is a current employee.
The logo update process began in December of 2023 and is still ongoing. While most digital assets were updated immediately, transitioning all physical assets—like uniforms —will take longer and may extend over several years.
Our customers did not pay for the logo updates. SDG&E used shareholder funds to update fleet vehicles, facility signage and some protective gear.
SDG&E works with various third-party contractors, some of whom may still have older materials displaying the previous logo. To verify their legitimacy, you can confirm their affiliation with SDG&E in the list below or by contacting our Customer Care Center
