About the Rodeo
The SDG&E Gas and Electric Rodeo is a proving ground for employees to put their skills to the test – competing against each other for the opportunity to represent SDG&E at national competitions in Kansas City.
The primary purposes of the event are to help maintain a focus on safety and safe work practices, provide a forum for the public to better understand and recognize the technical craft skills our employees have, and to provide an opportunity for craftspeople in the trade to receive recognition for their skills. One other purpose has always been for the participants to compete and have fun while sharing work knowledge with others in their trade from different companies and different utilities.

“Lineman and gas crews are an elite force,” said Joseph Torres, SDG&E’s in-house rodeo expert and Field Safety Advisor for Electric Regional Operations. “The rodeo is a unique opportunity for the public—and even our crews’ own families—to see them in action.”
