What is a RIN?

A RIN is a unique identifier established by the California Energy Commission (CEC) to allow customers who are on time-of-use pricing plans to access hourly electric pricing.

The RIN is primarily based on electric rates and is not customer-specific.

Your SDG&E RIN is:

Your bill has two RINs.

One RIN for your SDG&E Electric Delivery.

Electric Delivery RIN

One RIN for your CCA Electric Generation.
Refer to the CCA section of your bill for your CCA RIN.

Electric Generation RIN

Your bill has one RIN.

Your one RIN is for your SDG&E Electric Delivery
and Electric Generation.

What should I do with my RIN?

Having your RIN is the first step in giving your access to a downloadable spreadsheet with hourly electric pricing information from the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) website. However, this information is already available on your monthly bill.

But, if you are interested in learning how to download this hourly pricing report, you can find guided steps on the CEC website. Please note that information provided via the CEC's pricing report is not a substitute for the electric rate and pricing identified on your monthly bill.

In the future
The state plans to offer online tools to help you manage your energy use and costs. The goal is to empower consumers with information to optimize their energy usage, reduce costs and support environmentally friendly practices.
