TOU-ELEC Pricing Plan

Maximize savings on TOU-ELEC with the adoption of clean energy technology. Designed for customers that own an electric vehicle, energy storage, and/or an electric heat pump for water heating or climate control.

TOU-ELEC’s monthly service fee reduces the average price you pay per unit of energy (kWh) compared to pricing plans without a monthly service fee. This can help reduce dramatic swings in bill amount.

If you are a large electricity user who can shift your energy use to lower-priced times of day, the TOU-ELEC pricing plan may save you money. TOU-ELEC is most beneficial for customers who can program their EV charging, battery storage or electric heat pump to run during super off-peak times.

TOU-ELEC was designed to help meet CA’s electrification and de-carbonization goals by making it more cost effective for customers to electrify.

Frequently Asked Questions

TOU-ELEC does not include a baseline allowance, which is similar to other pricing plans that have a monthly service fee and lower energy prices during off-peak and super off-peak time periods.

Eligible medical customers enrolled in TOU-ELEC will receive a 20 percent line-item discount on their total electric charges. The monthly service fee of $16 per month is excluded from any discount applied regardless of participation in the Medical Baseline Allowance program, California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program and/or the Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) program.

A dual-fuel customer’s gas rate, including any Medical Baseline Program usage allowance, will be unchanged by electing to participate in the proposed TOU-ELEC rate. Any eligible dual-fuel customer will automatically receive both the new TOU-ELEC medical discount for electricity, as well as the standard medical baseline benefit for natural gas.

EV owners with battery storage and/or an electric heat pump are more likely to maximize savings on TOU-ELEC compared to other EV pricing plans. However, the better pricing plan will depend on the customer’s load profile and whether or not they can program their technologies to run during super-off peak time periods.
