Solar Installation

Solar and Battery Applications

To get started with a new solar or battery project, you or your contractor must first submit an SDG&E interconnection application through the Distribution Interconnection Information System (DIIS). Once your application is reviewed and passes initial technical reviews, you will receive an email notification from the Customer Generation team stating that you or your contractor can begin installation of the project. To learn more about this process from start to finish, view the Interconnection Process Guides below.

Online applications are processed within 30 days of being received, with an average processing time of less than five days (Monday to Friday, excluding holidays). You will receive an email confirmation upon processing and email updates as your project moves through the approval steps. If you are planning a more complex or commercial project, a Customer Generation representative may ask for additional information.

Fast Track Process (SBP/NEM)

Solar projects may be eligible for approval without a field inspection by a Customer Generation Advisor. To be eligible, you must have electric service panels rated lower than 400 amps and a total system size less than 30kW.  If your project meets the criteria, a single frame photo showing the SDG&E electric meter and safety “Caution” placard (attached to the service panel) may be uploaded to the interconnection submittal. These additional items will need to be uploaded along with the single line diagram below.

The interconnection application may take up to 15 minutes to complete. To prevent your session from timing out, please have all required documents on hand before starting the application process.
